This paper explores how Dutch banks’ mortgage advisors navigate their way through the consultations context. It centers on what is termed here discourse design explications, i.e., stretches of talk in which participants refer to conflicting constraints in the discourse context, at the same time presenting particular discourse designs for handling these conflicts.
