Annotation

This conversation-analytic study explores a type of action attained through a reversed polarity question (RPQ) replying to initial assessments in daily Japanese conversation. This inquiry shows that RPQs used in this specific position express alternative views to initial assessments by appealing to participants’ common sense or knowledge and index participants’ epistemic symmetry over a particular assessable.
