Annotation
The importance of this paper lies in its contribution to a comprehension of the emergence of leadership in teams, and in particular how humour and laughter are used as a resource to apply social influence. The paper uses the construct of the play frame, ‘non-serious’ talk in which participants jointly construct extended humorous sequences as improvisations, to assay how team members manoeuvre in order to attain influence, decision-making and leadership.
