Annotation

This paper proposes a discourse analysis of narratives from two adult Congolese refugees, centered on the impact of worldview (covering cultural mindset, personal world, and perspective) on thinking about accessing higher education. It explored narrative structure (Gee 2011), subject statements, and Underhill's (2009) three worldview elements in the narratives. Both participants held a cultural mindset that highly appraised education, but their personal worlds and perspectives diverged, possibly clarifying their varied decisions about accessing higher education. Findings propose implications for bolstering adult refugee education, especially their aspirations for accessing higher education.
