This inquiry explores the use of a computer assisted language learning (CALL) task employed in a Chinese as a foreign language (CFL) curriculum. A survey was conducted amid the students after their sound files were presented. Information gathered at the course e‐discussion forum was employed as another data source. The findings proposed a general picture of storytelling sound file task use in tertiary CFL classroom. More than 90% of the participants chose linking up the CFL learning with their personal experiences. Most of them perceived employing the storytelling sound file CALL task useful in ameliorating their CFL skills. The usefulness in listening to their own speaking was also validated. Possible ameliorations in dealing with the storytelling sound file task were proposed.
