This inquiry explored the effect of SES on cognitive control in illiterate monolingual and bilingual individuals who lived in adverse social conditions. The total bilingual effects supply evidence for a bilingual benefit even amid individuals without literacy abilities and of very low SES. This points out a strong connection between bilingualism and cognitive control over and above SES effects.
