This paper centers on political cartoon interpretation and the expression modes a cartoonist employs to transfer a message: visual metaphors, visual metonymies and metaphors derived from the image and/or text. Humour is the way to convey the cartoonist’s message to the viewer/reader and not a goal in itself.
