Reason-for-calling invitations in Italian take three major formats. Declarative /interrogative syntax highlights speakers’ stance on the action. Each format projects the recipients’ distinct commitment to partake. In lower commitment invitations recipients might keep back acceptance/rejection. These findings add to studies on first actions preference organisation.
