This article defines the research context of modern studies of multilingual workplace interaction, assuming the methodological framework of Conversation Analysis. It proposes and debates the profits and restrictions of this approach to the special types of questions linked with matters like language alternation, lingua franca use and linguistic proficiency. Further, it overviews the two strands of CA research that have appeared within the fields of second language acquisition and multilingual communication.
