Annotation

Hypothetical reported speech (HRS) often emerges in business meetings. HRS may be introduced by a series of phraseological patterns. HRS emerges as part of a sequential pattern (frame shift – HRS – evaluative summary). HRS was employed to execute a series of persuasive functions via ‘involvement’ or ‘detachment’. In business meetings, HRS is emplyed to generalize and accomplish change in action.
