Monolingual Swedish-speaking children aged 4–7 are sensitive to the same discourse factors as adults in electing referring expressions for reintroduction and maintenance in oral narratives. The children overemploy pronouns, covering pronouns that were irretrievable by a naïve listener. The children depend to a great degree on animacy as a pronominalization cue. This paper suggests that children employ global accessibility cues to a greater degree than adults.
