Štrbské Pleso as Slovakia's initial tourism site is settled by a number of social practices executed by tourism actors. An omnipresent element of its semioscape is public regulatory signage in which practices of im/politeness are performed. The dataset consists of public signs conveying directive speech acts employed to settle the flow of car and pedestrian traffic. The socio-cultural globalization processes are explored as to how the homogenization-heterogenization tension is settled. The hybridity and mixing of globally-uniform and locally-endemic im/politeness practices make Štrbské Pleso a “locally global” place.
