Annotation

This paper expands inquiry on workplace humour as a tactic for treating relationships and gendered identities. Male and female managers evenly use humour as politeness strategy to attain solidarity and group cohesiveness. Female managers strategically take humour to vindicate their authority and emit indirect criticisms to male staff. The functions of humour in Indonesian business meetings reflect socio-political changes covering women's rise in leadership positions, and global effects like the conversationalization of workplace discourse.
