O, sha and abi are pragmatic markers borrowed from Nigerian indigenous languages into Nigerian English. The data were taken from the International Corpus of English-Nigeria. O is an emphasis marker and a mitigation marker. Sha is a discourse marker, an attention marker and a mitigation marker. Abi is a discourse marker and an agreement marker.
