Annotation
Vague Category markers (VCMs) which are usual in informal conversation are also found in business talk in both English and Russian. Their functions are mostly equivalent between English and Russian. VCMs frequently show no syntactic matching between exemplars and their projected categories. Both English and Russian VCMs are important markers of linguistic identity. The generation and preservation of identities (whether corporate, national or cultural) is helped by VCM use.
