Annotation

A new genre of televised opinion show unlocks a public space for violating discursive interdictions in East Africa. Opinion giving is proposed as a nation-building practice. Normatively silenced voices and liberal ideas are presented via strategically shifted footing. Conflict is crucial for reaching the show agenda and contenting televisual requests of the medium. Censorship is surmounted by putting the liability for the transgressive talk on the show participants and the audience.
