This article examines the ways Chinese journalists evaluate conducts of distinct news actors (individuals or institutions written about in a news report) in Chinese hard news reporting on risk events. It is asserted that such distinct discursive patterns of evaluating news actors indicate the difference in the way social values are rendered and journalistic professional practices attempted in Chinese hard news construction.
