Annotation

This study proposes and collates phoneme or sound inventories of various Francoprovençal varieties. It distinguishes typical Francoprovençal sounds as a basis to explore contact-induced sound change. Language contact and the impact of French on the phonological systems are explored in more detail. Changes are elucidated by corpus data from the Monts du Lyonnais area and collated with other sources, centering on consonants. Dialectometric analysis of ALF-data validates heavy French impact on Francoprovençal phonology, which cannot be new. In the last hundred years, presumably sole minor changes in unstressed vowels happened in the explored area.
