Annotation

A range of legal acts have transformed what used to be regarded a group of “patois” at the confine of Italy, France and Switzerland into a “minority/regional language”: the Francoprovençal language (FP). A trans-border language policy is being evolved, based on the hypothesis that structural unity of FP would include similarity of social matters related to its use. The pivotal question of this paper is: what do people genuinely do with FP and what does it mean for them?
