Annotation

Synchronic intralingual translation in modern China involves translation between Putonghua and local/regional Chinese dialects. Two intralingual translation modes, dubbing and subtitling, are explored in this paper, in terms of their use in TV serials made in China since the 2000s. Evidence displays that the use of a control-resistance paradigm to grasp the link between the national language and Chinese dialects is fraught with difficulties.
