In Japan, translation of notable information for foreign residents into community languages has happened for many years mostly at the local government level rather than the national. In recent years, however, this has started to alter. This paper explores the provision of translated multilingual information to newcomer foreign residents in Japanese communities by both local and national government in order to explore this change.
