This inquiry explored the alacrity of 14 English-speaking EFL instructors living and working in South Korea to invest in practices linked with learning and employing the Korean language. It found that the ways in which participants observed that they were installed as native English speakers was apt to work against persevered interest in Korean language learning. For the vast majority of participants, entry into local communities of practice did not happen, unless there was a sense of belonging.
