This inquiry tries to present the journey of native English-speaking teachers and a historical survey of foreign language teaching in Turkey. Especially, this article shows that a distinct change occurred in the field in Turkey concerning the level of professionalism native speakers are now awaited to have. Where once native English speakers could become teachers without any fit methodology background, many have since become professional teachers holding pertinent, internationally admitted certificates in the field of English language teaching.
