This paper examines the cases of novel speakers of Welsh in Wales and covers data notably from the heartlands (West Wales) in which a number of novel speakers debate their membership of Welsh-speaking communities, the problems they off and on meet and, crucially, how they manage to treat their own sense of speakerhood under such conditions.
