This study centers on the affect of English-medium instruction (EMI) on higher education given its dominance in this sector and the implications for globalisation. In the Turkish context, this has evolved into a mostly two-sided discussion between those with nationalistic viewpoints versus those with more progressive and liberal ones. It also judges the academic and sociological imperatives for employing EMI.
