This paper explores to what degree the opportunity to deduce a referent’s existence from foregoing context (as pointed out by the referent’s information status as deduced or span-new) and a referent’s unique identifiability (as pointed out by a referent’s uniqueness status) impact (1) settlement of ambiguous pronoun in understanding and (2) the bent to record a referent again and render it topic in discourse planning.
