Narratives oft render perceptions that permit plural interpretations in viewpoint terms : Perceptions may be interpreted from either the narrator’s or the character’s perspective. Two experiments explored the role of contextual viewpoint markers and verb tense in readers’ interpretation of such equivocal perceptions.
