This study explores dissimilarities in the psychological aspects underpinning Western mobilisation of two terrorist groups, Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and al-Qaeda, by assaying their English-language propaganda in their English-language online magazines Dabiq and Inspire. It found important dissimilarities in their language: the ISIS’ language being higher in authoritarianism and religiousness level.
