Annotation

This article paper reveals proof for two related levels of morphosyntactic shift happening in Canadian English. The more common is a lexical substitution: with finite subordination after seem, the complementizer like has been catching up all the options (as if, as though, that, and Ø). There is also a wider syntactic shift.
