Annotation

This paper supplies proof of the allophonic raising split of price and mouth in the English spoken on the Scilly Isles (a group of islands off the southwest coast of England) where the pattern is more robust for mouth than price. It suggests that this split is the result of dialect contact, natural phonetic tendencies and social meaning.
