This inquiry presents a reply to Sessarego's (2017a) paper on the disputed origins of non-canonical Chocó Spanish (Colombia) predicate negation. Defining the real source(s) — European or African (or both?)? — of these and linked negation structures has significant results for the bigger problem of the origin of New World (1) Spanish, (2) Portuguese, and (3) Palenquero at large.
