Annotation

This article explores what various types of metapragmatic conduct can reveal about partakers’ grasps of (im)politeness. Employing online comments from Daily Mail reports linked to the Penelope Soto court hearings, the article displays that seeming agreements in the ordination of linguistic conduct as (im)polite can mask discords in the underlying reasons for those verdicts. This article presents that a differentiaton has to be made between diverse, classed, evaluation categories as these supply diverse levels of proof for partakers’ grasps of (im)politeness.
