This paper explores variance in the stance assumed in translation between Western press reports (in English) and Reference News (Chinese in pinyin: Cancao Xiaoxi) and claims, on the basis of frame assay of 27 news report pairs on the Sino-Japanese territorial conflict, that news translation of contentious matters is a process in which the stance framed in the primary news report is reframed for the target culture.
