This paper uses a Systemic Functional Linguistics frame of appraisal theory to read the behavioural and attitudinal resources in written narratives and presents the idea of proximity as an alternative representation to account the meaning-making process of Chinese students’ possible selves in a context of UK-based transnational university in China.
