In the second language (L2) word learning context, this inquiry explores spontaneous gesture production's affect on communication and nonspontaneous representational gesture viewing's affect on memory. These outcomes show that spontaneous gesture output and nonspontaneous gesture viewing play varied but interlinked roles in L2 learning.
