This study explores the role of lexical, morphological, and discourse-referential parts in gender allocation with animate nouns in heritage Russian in order to examine the level to which these varied interfaces are defying in heritage language (HL) learning. Issues with forms whose gender reference is disambiguated at discourse level indicate the syntax-discourse interface as locus of systematic fix for HL speakers.
