This article debates the structure of a certain verb cluster type, viz. modal infinitivo pro participio (IPP) structures, in main clauses of a dying heritage variety of German, Moundridge Schweitzer German (MSG), spoken in Kansas. An acceptability judgment task was run with 12 partakers to explore two facets of MSG verb clusters. Modal IPP structures in MSG have a fixed 2–3 verb order but let object encoding to some level.
