This paper explored how metaphorical frames are transformed in online partisan media. It used the “drain the swamp” metaphor in modern US political discourse. Use without transformation involved paraphrasing, clarifying and/or assessing. Target transformations happened via limiting or remolding. Source transformations observed narrative rules narrowed by story grammar.
