Annotation

This paper consistently explores person reference in the pain stage of capital trials. It finds taut distinctive patterns of referential practice by the rivalling lawyers. It unveils how accused and victims are made into certain sorts of people in closing speech. It claims that referential practice morally and normatively builds incorrigibility of defendants and crime atrocity. It makes the point clear that a death warrant relies on the presenter's tagging abilities.
