Annotation

‘Laugh’ particles are employed to convey laughing at- and laughing with-stances. ‘Laugh’ particles are reactive, they indicate a prior laughable. ‘Laugh’ particles have to be assayed in their conccurrence with emojis. Group chats and dyadic chats have to be distinguished. This paper explores functions of ‘laugh’ particles like haha, hehe or hihi in a corpus of German WhatsApp text messages.
