Informed by frame semantics, this paper explored surprise as a knowledge emotion. Surprise markers were discerned and classed in a corpus of 320 research articles. Semantic frames bleeped by the surprise markers and their relations were assayed. A surprise frame was generalized from the discerned frames and key frame parts. Advice is given on the frame as conceptual device for future inquiry.
