Annotation

This article discerns the trends in the data employed in pragmatics research over the past 20 years, and thereby portends how pragmatics might grow in the next few years. Pragmatics is still tightly related to data, especially “real” data. Pragmatics is changing its analytical center towards more macro, contextual units. Pragmatics is using datasets of raising size, but still shuns the largest corpora. Pragmatics is less ruled by solely spoken data, progressively using multimodal data and digital media data, yet the use of more interactive, dialogic data is raising. Pragmatics pursues to vary the set of languages it handles.
