Annotation

This paper sets off Gricean speaker's meanings with the “non-propositional effects” communed by many tropic expressions. It debates the dares “non-propositional effects” constitute for modern theories of linguistic pragmatics and displays how these challenges might be taken up by more cognitively oriented approaches like relevance theory. It regards the role of mental imagery in expression grasp, and especially metaphor interpretation.
