Slurs are regarded as more offensive than non-slurring insults when happening in isolation. When befalling in ‘X is a P’ sentences, slurs are discerned as less offensive than in isolation. When befalling in ‘X is a P’ sentences, insults are discerned as more offensive than in isolation. Indirect report only lowers the offensiveness of utterances with slurs and insults. The drop of discerned offensiveness in indirect report speaks against prohibitionism.
