This paper handles the sociopolitical and intellectual contexts in which Cognitive Linguistics (CL) evolved. It critically explores Lakoff's application of CL theory to US politics. It asserts CL ensured its survival by proposing traditional methods as science. It claims role of expertise joins mainstream CL and Lakoff's political practice of it.
