Annotation

Lately, the dichotomy of juxtaposition of a social patterning of linguistic factors and other social factors, which, when closely built as changes from above, pivot upon the awareness of a linguistic trait, has been obelized, as sociolinguists have started theorising social meaningfulness as a more intricate symptom that excels the traditional ‘unaware/aware’ dichotomy that appears to underlie such a difference. Quitting this dichotomy unavoidably defies the entire ‘narrow interface between language and society’ that underlies the orthodox Labovian framework.
