Barnsley was the most of set sub-Yorkshire dialect in interviews. One distinctive trait
of Barnsley dialect was a fronted vowel in ‘Barnsley’. This vowel is enregistered as “Barnsley” to Yorkshire speakers. Barnsley dialect is linked to social values like ‘broad’ and ‘traditional’.
