Sociopolitical structures and public discourses affect naming agency (NA) enactment. There are distinct NA coercions for indigenous people (IP) and immigrants (Is) in Canada, who are severally framed as ‘original inhabitants’ and ‘recent arrivals’. IP and Is are framed as minorities who should equalize names. Individuals parley agency enactment by opposing, bearing or adjusting to naming coercions.
