This paper problematizes the concept of language regimes with respect to how the term regimentation is employed in the other social sciences, and with respect to language ideologies. It claims that regimentation, a term maybe more helpful than regimes, fortifies the stand already evolved in semiotic anthropology that ideologies are not sole ideas but should also cover social action, by centering not only on ‘the rules of the [linguistic] game’ but also on the strategies that direct social action.
