Annotation

Using the authenticity and anonymity model, this paper examines the Irish State's mobilisation of these contrary but interlinked language ideologies in tries to order Irish use both within the traditionally Irish-speaking Gaeltacht regions and nationwide. Using ethnographic fieldwork in western Ireland, the paper explores how non-traditional Irish speakers' grasp of the Gaeltacht and its native speakers as a resource for immersion in the authentic language, forms hopes of how native Irish speakers within these regions speak, live and act. This debate stresses the links between social action, linguistic ideology, and political economy.
